Why Supermarket Turkeys are Trash

November 29, 2022

Did you know around 46 million turkeys are eaten every year during thanksgiving in America? There are so many choices of turkeys out there so make sure to pick your bird wisely. Here's 2 reasons why supermarket turkeys are trash.

For one, supermarket turkeys are often factory farmed. These birds are pumped with saline solution, vegetable oils and often emulsifiers and artificial flavoring. Yuck.

Second, just 2% of livestock farms raise 40% of the animals we eat in America. That means they live in close quarters and have no room to exercise. Their bones get so weak they can barely even carry their own weight.

85-90% of the turkeys eaten in America come from these factory farms. Don't participate in this inhumane mass turkey farming.

At Local Roots we work with a turkey farm called Oink and Gobble in upstate NY. Their turkeys roam free on pasture and are never given antibiotics or hormones.
