FOOD IS MEDICINE: Unleash your body's healing potential with Ayurveda

Ayurveda is considered to be the oldest healing science as it originated more than 5,000 years ago. In Sanskrit, Ayurveda means, “The Science of Life” and encourages the maintenance of health through close attention to balance in one’s life, right thinking, diet, lifestyle and the use of herbs. Through this workshop, Ayurvedic experts will share how seasonal eating can be used as your medicine to keep you balanced as we transition from spring into summer. Seasonal snacks made with seasonal produce from Local Roots as well as a guide on lifestyle and dietary recommendations, will keep you cool & calm during the summer season.

In this workshop attendees will receive:

An intro into to the Ayurvedic method including a quiz to ‘discover your dosha’

A guide for recognizing signs of some of the common health imbalances of summer, ie. Inflammation, skin rashes, sleep disturbances, headaches, irritability

Lifestyle recommendations to pacify the over-production of heat in the body during summer

Seasonal recipes designed to bring health for the summer season

Samples of the recipes using Local Roots produce to eat and enjoy

About the Ayurvedic Teachers:

Stephanie Wright is a Brooklyn-based Ayurvedic chef and founder of the Wright Methods who believes that making conscious changes to your daily practices and diet can bring you back into balance with your physical, mental and spiritual needs. Stephanie was trained at Bhagavat Life, the first Ayurvedic culinary training program in North America, where she learned the principles of Shaka Vansiya Ayurveda under Divya Alter, author of What to Eat for How You Feel: The New Ayurvedic Kitchen. She now shares her knowledge of Ayurveda as a recipe developer, culinary instructor and menu consultant.

 

Philippa Anderson is a certified Ayurvedic Health Counselor and fitness professional. While pursuing a career in dance teaching & performance Philippa discovered Ayurveda to be the key that healed her digestive issues as well as provide valuable guidance in prioritizing self-care amidst hectic NYC living. She received her training from the Kripalu School of Yoga & Ayurveda and is the founder Tala Ayurveda. Tala Ayurveda’s mission is to make the teachings of Ayurveda accessible by empowering individuals to take charge of their health through daily practice & increasing self awareness.
