Halloween Festival & Fundraiser!

October 26, 2012 0 Comments Uncategorized

Join us for our Halloween Festival & Fundraiser for our CSA in the Classroom! Its going to be an awesome night of pumpkin carving, bobbing for apples, and even a costume contest. Come dressed up in your best Halloween get-ups for a chance to win some sweet treats and prizes. For those of you who come extra hungry, we’ll also have a pie-eating contest. It’s going to be a great time for fall fun! The party is at 61 Local on October 31st and begins at 7pm, games start at 8pm. Games are priced individually.

All proceeds from contests will go to CSA in the Classroom, a Local Roots NYC program that empowers youth through the power of local food. Fifteen fifth graders at PS 217 in Ditmas Park have been chosen to learn how to coordinate a CSA and, in turn, learn about the local food system and work-focused skills. Lesson plans are implemented in the classroom as well as while running the CSA at their school. We are currently experiencing difficulty with the Department of Education with the set-up of the CSA, which would help fund the program. We hope to raise money to support one staff member to continue lesson plans in the classroom as we work with the DOE. This is a very important program to us and we have already connected with the fifth graders, who have shown great interest in learning more about our food system and eating healthier!
