From Soil to City

Local Roots NYC is all about celebrating authentic, delicious, sustainable food and its ties with cultural heritage.  If you love to travel and are looking to take the love of food to the next level, consider a sustainable culinary experience to Crete.  This September, a small group of 12 will participate in hands-on cooking classes using hyper-local ingredients, learn the secrets of traditional Cretan cuisine, share tastings at olive oil and wine producing vineyards, tour beehives and organic farms, stroll through local food markets, bear witness to thousands of years of history, and of course, be introduced to the best beaches and local restaurants of Crete. There are only 4 spots left and we’re offering an exclusive Local Roots NYC discount of $150.  Learn more about the tour here and/or contact Irene of Greenloons (one of the organizers of this trip) with questions. Please reference your special voucher MLRNYC04 upon inquiry to Greenloons. Bookings must occur by Feb 28, 2017 for a discount – for a special and unique culinary journey, reserve your tickets here!

To share our love on this Valentine’s Day, we’re giving you a photo of one of the farmers that grow your Local Roots NYC food. Keep Farmer George up in your kitchen or on your fridge to show some love back to the wonderful person that nurtures us with “the best tasting carrots”, “radishes like i’ve never had before”, and “buttery potatoes”.

Greenpoint Muesli Co.’s raw granola consists of oats, nuts, seeds, and dried fruits for a breakfast option that keeps you full all day long. Their nutritious cereal has no added sugars, dry milks, or preservatives, unlike muesli varieties you might see at the grocery store.

Swing by the Local Roots market at 61 Local this evening to sample and buy one of their six blends (including fig berry, banana cocoa, and apple oatmeal raisin).

Where: 61 Local, 61 Bergen Street
When: 5:30 – 7:30pm

Our Farmer’s Share is made up of vegetables that are naturally beautiful but don’t meet traditional market cosmetic standards. Instead of going to compost, you can help with our country’s food waste problem while growing your bounty. The winter Farmer’s Share is made up of mostly sweet potatoes and carrots and is great for sharing with friends, cooking up a big batch for a dinner party, juicing and more! You can add onto your order for $7 with a vegetable share and $9 without a vegetable share.

Add a farmer’s share to your weekly pickup here!
